Rihanna’s dad on pregnancy news: ‘She’s going to be a good mom’ - Page Six

Rihanna has made it no secret that she wants to be a mom.

Now, the superstar has confirmed her first pregnancy by strolling through Harlem with boyfriend A$AP Rocky — and her growing belly on full display.

“I’m ecstatic,” the singer’s dad, Ronald Fenty, told Page Six from his home in Barbados on Monday, adding: “I’m so happy that I jumped for joy. I’m still so excited.

“Rihanna always said that she wanted children, she loves kids. She always takes care of her cousins’ kids…she’s going to be a good mom.”

Fenty met Rocky after his daughter brought him home to the Caribbean island in December 2020, calling him “a very cool guy” and adding: “I like him.”

Rihanna and her father, a former alcoholic and crack addict, have had a troubled relationship over the years.

Last September, Rihanna scrapped the lawsuit she had brought against her dad, accusing him of misusing her name to benefit his own entertainment company, just weeks before they were meant to meet in court. It’s believed they settled the case.

Now Fenty seems to have reconciled with his daughter (real name Robyn Rihanna Fenty). He told Page Six that Rihanna called him with the news that he will be a grandpa on Sunday night.

“I just got the news from her last night, and she sent me some photos,” he said. “I’m just over the moon. She’s beautiful inside and out.”

The singer, who found global fame at 17 with her version of “Pon de Replay,” told British Vogue in 2020 that she had turned her attention to motherhood after her long-term relationship with Saudi billionaire businessman Hassan Jameel ended.

She said: “Since I turned 32, I’m realizing life is really short.

“You don’t have a lot of time to tolerate s–t, you know? You put so much on your plate. When you’re overwhelmed, you need to start cutting things out. And I’m overwhelmed too much…I know I will want to live differently.”

Asked where she pictured herself in 10 years, she replied: “Ten years? I’ll be 42! I’ll be ancient…I’ll have kids — three or four of ’em.”

Rihanna even made it clear that she could be a single mom, saying: “Hell, yeah!”

“I feel like society makes me want to feel like, ‘Oh, you got it wrong…’ They diminish you as a mother if there’s not a dad in your kids’ lives. But the only thing that matters is happiness, that’s the only healthy relationship between a parent and a child. That’s the only thing that can raise a child truly, is love.”

But she won’t have to do it on her own as she appears to be fully committed to Rocky (real name Rakim Mayers).

An onlooker at Carbone restaurant in Soho earlier this month saw the couple as they shared an intimate dinner, telling Page Six: “Rocky was looking at Rihanna adoringly, and Rihanna looked so gorgeous. The hostess had to move them to a different table to accommodate Rihanna’s bump, and when she got up she was stroking her stomach.”

Both equally successful and fashionable — Rocky has appeared on the cover of GQ — they also share troubled backgrounds.

Rihanna once recounted to Rolling Stone how her father allegedly beat her mother, Monica Braithwaite, and once hit her as well. She said she suffered debilitating stress headaches as a child that stopped once her parents divorced when she was 14.

After the divorce, Braithwaite worked full time and Rihanna took over as her younger brother Rajad’s caretaker.

“I grew up fast, kind of like the second mom,” Rihanna told The Guardian.

Rocky — whose parents Adrian Mayer and Renee Black emigrated from Barbados to the US — was born and brought up in Harlem.

Rocky started rapping at eight years old, but when he was 12, his father was jailed for drug dealing. A year later, his 20-year-old brother, Ricky, was shot dead by a rival dealer. Rocky was 13 at the time, and on his way to school when his mom told him the news.

With his dad behind bars, Rocky, his mom and two sisters spent time living in shelters. They moved around frequently, from Harlem to the Bronx to Philadelphia and North Carolina. He saw “a lot of crazy s–t” growing up, he told the Red Bull Academy in 2015.

Rocky also drifted into life on the streets, starting with selling weed as a teen before moving on to crack. At the age of 16, he spent two weeks in Rikers Island for firing a gun at a neighborhood bully in Harlem.

He was “never no big-time hustler,” he insisted to journalist Dorian Lynskey in 2015, making just enough to “support my studio time” but quitting dealing before getting sucked too far in.

“That lifestyle’s wack,” Rocky said.

Rocky was 23 when he signed a $3 million major-label deal after dropping his breakout mixtape, “Live. Love. A$AP.” in 2011.

Meanwhile, Rihanna has won nine Grammy awards, acted in Hollywood movies and runs her own Fenty Beauty and Fenty Fashion lines, but has had less luck in love.

After a headline-grabbing romance with Chris Brown (above), Rihanna seems to have found peace with A$AP Rocky, whose parents — like the singer herself — are from Barbados.

She ended up in the headlines after ex-lover, rapper Chris Brown, assaulted her on the night of the 2009 Grammys. Brown later pleaded guilty to a felony assault and was sentenced to five years probation and ordered to stay at least 50 yards from Rihanna at all times. Despite the violent incident and concern from fans, the pair embarked on a second attempt at romance in 2013 — but they broke up for good that same year.

Following her split from Jameel in January 2020 after a three-year relationship, it wasn’t long before Rihanna got together with Rocky.

Rumors about their status began circulating as early as 2013, when Rocky opened for Rihanna’s Diamonds World Tour. People magazine confirmed they were dating in November 2020.

Both Rocky and Rihanna seem to have brought some peace to each other. They spent 2020 driving from LA to NYC on a massive tour bus.

As Rocky told GQ last May, they made it their very own Great American Roadtrip. He said they listened to the Stones, the Grateful Dead and Curtis Mayfield and stopped in a few national parks. Rocky told how he dropped acid and made his own clothes, beatnik-style — sewing, patching, and tie-dyeing shirts and pants on the bus.

He called Rihanna “The One,” saying: “She amounts to probably, like, a million of the other ones.

Once asked by Vogue about her plans for the future, Rihanna said, “I’ll have kids — three or four of ’em.”

“I think when you know, you know. She’s the One.”

He said she has influenced his new music, and that he was overjoyed when she took him home to Barbados two years ago.

“It was like a homecoming thing,” he said. “It was crazy. I always imagined what it would be like for my dad, before he came to America. And I got to visit those places, and believe it or not, there was something nostalgic about it. It was foreign but familiar.”

Asked if he’s ready to be a dad, he replied: “If that’s in my destiny, absolutely…I think I’d be an incredible, remarkably, overall amazing dad. I would have a very fly child. Very.”

Former Miss USA Cheslie Kryst Dies at 30 - The New York Times

Ms. Kryst, who was also a correspondent for the television show “Extra,” was found dead on Sunday in New York.

Cheslie Kryst, a correspondent for the celebrity news program “Extra” who won the Miss USA title in 2019 while working as a lawyer, was found dead on Sunday in New York. She was 30.

Ms. Kryst died in a fall from a high-rise building on Manhattan’s West Side, where she had an apartment, the New York Police Department said. Her death was being investigated as a suicide, Lt. Thomas Antonetti, a department spokesman, said on Monday.

“Extra,” which also announced her death, provided a statement from her family that said Ms. Kryst “embodied love and served others, whether through her work as an attorney fighting for social justice, as Miss USA and as a host” on the show.

Ms. Kryst joined “Extra” as a correspondent in the fall of 2019, and later earned two Daytime Emmy Award nominations for outstanding entertainment news program for her work, according to Variety.

Michelle V. Agins/The New York Times

In the hours before her death, Ms. Kryst shared a picture of herself on Instagram with the caption, “May this day bring you rest and peace.”

Cheslie Kryst was born on April 28, 1991, in Jackson, Mich., and moved to Charlotte, N.C., when she was a toddler, according to a profile from SouthPark Magazine. She later graduated from the University of South Carolina with a business degree and then earned an M.B.A. and a law degree from Wake Forest University.

In 2017 she joined Poyner Spruill, a law firm based in North Carolina, where she focused on civil litigation. The firm said in a statement on Sunday that Ms. Kryst “was a passionate advocate both in and out of the courtroom.” After she was crowned Miss USA, she and Poyner Spruill agreed that she would go on sabbatical, and she later left the firm, according to its managing partner, Dan Cahill.

Although Ms. Kryst worked as a lawyer for some time, she was no stranger to beauty pageants. Her mother, April Simpkins, was crowned Mrs. North Carolina in 2002. “My mom was the second Black Mrs. North Carolina, so I knew no matter what, I was going to compete,” Ms. Kryst told The New York Times in 2020.

Ms. Kryst started her pageant career as a teenager and won the Miss Northwestern pageant while in high school. In 2019, she was crowned Miss North Carolina and went on to win Miss USA, becoming the oldest contestant ever to win at age 28. She later represented the United States at the 2019 Miss Universe Competition, finishing in the top 10.

In the midst of a rising career that required long days, Ms. Kryst told The Times in December 2019 that down time was the key to balancing her busy schedule, which included traveling for events as Miss USA and maintaining her blog, White Collar Glam, where she discussed affordable workplace fashion.

Mental health was also a priority for Ms. Kryst, who said in a Facebook video in 2019 that she regularly spoke with a counselor. “When I’m not talking to my counselor, I take time at the end of every single day to just decompress,” she said. “I unplug. I shut my phone off. I don’t answer messages. I just sit and watch my favorite movie.”

Ms. Kryst also used her rise to fame and presence on the pageant stage to make a statement about diversity. She described herself as a Black woman of mixed race heritage and told The Grio in 2019 that she intentionally wore her hair natural during the Miss USA pageant. “Winning with my natural hair was really important to me because I thought, this is the way that my hair grows out of my head,” she said. “I should be OK to wear my hair like this.”

In an essay published by Allure magazine last year, Ms. Kryst reflected on the challenges of growing older and challenging conventional thinking about women’s appearances and opinions.

“A grinning, crinkly-eyed glance at my achievements thus far makes me giddy about laying the groundwork for more, but turning 30 feels like a cold reminder that I’m running out of time to matter in society’s eyes — and it’s infuriating,” she wrote. “After a year like 2020, you would think we’d learned that growing old is a treasure and maturity is a gift not everyone gets to enjoy.”

Ms. Kryst is survived by her parents and five siblings.

If you are having thoughts of suicide, in the United States call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255 (TALK) or go to SpeakingOfSuicide.com/resources for a list of additional resources. Go here for resources outside the United States.

Halo live-action TV series gets explosive first trailer: See it here - CNET

It's finally, actually happening. The first trailer for the Halo TV series exploded onto screens Sunday, and Master Chief finally looks set to complete his longest, most difficult mission: leaping from Xbox hit video game to live-action TV show.

The series will be available on streaming service Paramount Plus. Set in the 26th century, Halo sees a brilliant scientist played by Natascha McElhone genetically engineer super-soldiers to fight an alien menace called the Covenant. One of these so-called Spartans, in instantly recognizable green armor and yellow visor, is Master Chief Spartan John-117, played by Pablo Schreiber, from Orange Is the New Black and American Gods.

The 2-minute trailer for the Halo series debuted Sunday, Jan. 30, during the AFC championship game on CBS and Paramount Plus. It's a fast-paced, action-packed intro to Master Chief -- "humanity's best weapon" -- and we get a glimpse of a handful of other Spartans, as well as McElhone's character, plus a suspicious general, a minion that Master Chief saves and a rather haughty, beshawled sort uttering softly, "Humans, surrender to the Covenant." It winds toward its conclusion against an ethereal cover of the moody Phil Collins classic "In the Air Tonight" and what seems like the show's mission statement: Find the Halo, win the war.

A title card gives us a rough date to mark in our TV viewing calendars: this March. A tweet from the Halo on Paramount account gives the date of March 24.

Microsoft has been talking about a Halo TV show for a decade, with Steven Spielberg attached earlier in the process. His company Amblin is one of those behind the project, along with 343 Industries, the current owner of the Halo game franchise. In anticipation of the show, 343 explained that the series would have its own version of Halo continuity dubbed "the silver timeline," making it distinct from the backstory familiar to fans while still borrowing important and cool stuff from the lore of the games, novels and other spinoffs.

Interest in the Halo franchise has been running high since the video game Halo Infinite arrived in December after a troubled development period and a yearlong delay. In his review of the game, CNET's Mark Serrels wrote, "No matter where you are in Halo Infinite's open world, everything feels designed for the player. There are no dud textures, no spaces where you shouldn't be."

The TV series was originally intended to air on Showtime before it made the move to Paramount Plus (formerly known as CBS All Access, and home to new Star Trek series, among other things).

The show's cast also includes Jen Taylor, Shabana Azmi, Natasha Culzac, Olive Gray, Yerin Ha, Bentley Kalu, Kate Kennedy, Charlie Murphy, Danny Sapani and Bokeem Woodbine.

Howard Hesseman, Dr. Johnny Fever on ‘WKRP in Cincinnati,’ Dies at 81 - Hollywood Reporter

Howard Hesseman, who made a career out of portraying off-the-wall characters, none more popular than the disc jockey Johnny Fever on the sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati, has died. He was 81.

Hesseman died Saturday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Los Angeles of complications from colon surgery he first had last summer, his wife, actress and acting teacher Caroline Ducrocq, told The Hollywood Reporter.

A member of the San Francisco improv group The Committee and a real-life DJ back in the 1960s, Hesseman also was known for his stint as out-of-work actor turned history teacher Charlie Moore on the ABC comedy Head of the Class. (He quit that show after four seasons to aim for a movie career.)

Related Stories

And on the ninth and final season of One Day at a Time, his character, architect Sam Royer, married longtime divorcee Ann Romano (Bonnie Franklin).

In other eccentric turns, Hesseman played hippies in Richard Lester’s Petulia (1968) and on NBC’s Dragnet (he was billed as Don Sturdy back then); a patient suffering from writer’s block on The Bob Newhart Show; a psychiatrist on Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman; a pimp opposite Dan Aykroyd in Doctor Detroit (1983); and a shock rocker in This Is Spinal Tap (1984).

Hesseman received Emmy nominations in 1980 and ’81 for his work on CBS’ WKRP in Cincinnati, which ran for four seasons (1978-82). With his shades, moustache and slouch, he became a countercultural icon.

Veteran TV director Jay Sandrich, who was hired to helm the WKRP pilot for MTM Enterprises, suggested Hesseman would be great for Fever after Richard Libertini said he couldn’t do it at the last minute. The two had just worked together on the ABC comedy Soap, with Hesseman playing a prosecutor out to convict Katherine Helmond‘s Jessica Tate of murder.

“Howard had at one time been a DJ,” Sandrich said in a 2001 interview for the website The Interviews: An Oral History of Television. “He just stepped in and killed it. He knew exactly what he was doing.”

Hugh Wilson, a former sales executive at a Top 40 radio station who created WKRP (the fictional station’s call letters were a pun on “W-crap”), based the rock DJ on “a guy I knew in Atlanta called Skinny Bobby Harper,” he once said. “That was funny, because he was the morning guy, so Skinny had to get up at 4 in the morning to get in there. But he also loved being in the bars at night. He was like Fever.

“In the pilot, I said [to Hesseman], ‘You’ve got to play it like you’re sleepwalking, because you should be asleep by 8, but 8 is just when you’re going out.’ “

The guy who would up playing Johnny Fever was perfect for hosting Saturday Night Live three times and for fronting music specials like 25 Years of Motown and Supernight of Rock & Roll.

Describing his iconic character in a in a 1979 interview with The New York Times, Hesseman said: “I think maybe Johnny smokes a little marijuana, drinks beer and wine, and maybe a little hard liquor. And on one of those hard mornings at the station, he might take what for many years was referred to as a diet pill. But he is a moderate user of soft drugs, specifically marijuana.”

He was born on Feb. 27, 1940, in Lebanon, Oregon. His father was an auto-parts salesman and a musician. His parents divorced when he was 5, and his mom married a cop.

After graduating from Silverton High School in 1958, Hesseman spent a couple of years at the University of Oregon, then was off to San Francisco, where he landed a gig as a disc jockey for the underground rock station KMPX. He then latched on with The Committee, where he took the Don Sturdy stage name.

He told the Times that he spent 90 days in the San Francisco County Jail in 1963 for selling an ounce of marijuana (a conviction that was thrown out for entrapment). And in a 1983 profile in People, he did admit to conducting “pharmaceutical experiments in recreational chemistry.”

The Committee once had a long engagement on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, and he and other troupers made an appearance in Billy Jack (1971).

In Shampoo (1975), Hesseman played a lazy, boozy character known as Red Dog, then showed up in The Sunshine Boys (1975), Silent Movie (1976), The Big Bus (1976) and The Other Side of Midnight (1977).

In the WKRP pilot, which first aired on Sept. 18, 1978, his character introduces himself to newly hired program director Andy Travis (Gary Sandy) as Johnny Caravella. “I’m also known as Johnny Midnight, Johnny Cool, Johnny Duke, Johnny Style and Johnny Sunshine,” he says.

Johnny was fired from a Los Angeles station, where he was making $100,000 a year, for using the word “booger” on the air. That led him to embark on an odyssey that led to jobs in Amarillo, Texas; Denver; Boise, Idaho; Fargo, North Dakota; and then Cincinnati.

With WKRP switching to a Top 40 rock format, he christened himself Dr. Johnny Fever. After that series ended, he came back a few times for The New WKRP in Cincinnati, which had a couple of seasons in syndication.

Afterward, Hesseman kept busy with appearances in such films as Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment (1985), Heat (1986), Gridlock’d (1997), About Schmidt (2002), The Rocker (2008) and Halloween II (2009).

He also guest-starred as a judge on Boston Legal, a radio station manager on That ’70s Show, a former drug dealer on John From Cincinnati and a schoolmaster on Fresh Off the Boat.

In addition to his wife — they lived together for seven years before getting married in July 1989 — survivors include their godchildren Grace, Hamish and Chet.

Duane Byrge and Trilby Beresford contributed to this report.

Neil Young gives fans a free four-month subscription to Amazon Music after removing his music from Spotify over Joe Rogan's COVID misinformation: Multiple artists have begun pulling their songs while Harry and Meghan have expressed 'concerns'

  • Neil Young, 76, is encouraging listeners to tune into his work on Amazon after he cut ties with Spotify over its popular - and controversial - podcaster Joe Rogan
  •  'Amazon has been leading the pack in bringing hi-res audio to the masses,' he said while offering new subscribers four months free

Folk-rock legend Neil Young is offering listeners a free four-month subscription to Amazon's streaming service amid a fallout with Spotify, which he's boycotting in protest of its controversial anti-vaccine podcaster Joe Rogan.

Young, 76, plugged Amazon Music to his 76,000 Twitter followers Friday, saying 'all new listeners will get four months free.'

'Amazon has been leading the pack in bringing hi-res audio to the masses, and it's a great place to enjoy my entire catalogue in the highest quality available,' he said in a message on his website.

Young last week threatened to remove his music from Spotify unless it fired Rogan, who's been accused by critics of pushing 'anti-vax misinformation' on his podcast.

Other musicians have joined in on the boycott, including Joni Mitchell and  Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band guitarist Nils Lofgren.

Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle are also calling on Spotify to fire Rogan. The couple, who signed a $25 million deal with the streaming service, have since April been expressing 'concerns' over Rogan's commentary, a spokeswoman told CNN.

But the formerly royal couple have not split with the firm, instead saying they were 'committed to continuing our work together' as it addressed their issues.

'We have continued to express our concerns to Spotify to ensure changes to its platform are made to help address this public health crisis,' the spokeswoman said.

'We look to Spotify to meet this moment and are committed to continuing our work together as it does.'

Young - whose hits include Heart of Gold and Rockin' in the Free World - is a 27-time Grammy nominee and two-time winner who last week gave Spotify an ultimatum to either fire Rogan or remove his catalogue.

'They can have Rogan or Young,' he wrote in an open letter to his manager and record label. 'Not both.'

Who is Joe Rogan and what are his controversial views?

Joe Rogan is a US comedian and UFC commentator who has gained a huge following with his Joe Rogan Experience Podcast, launched in 2009.

The podcast features interviews with high profile celebrities and episodes regularly receive millions of views and listeners, making it one of the most popular podcasts in the world.

Rogan often shares his own opinions on the show, but this has landed the host in controversy

During a three-hour and six-minute interview on the now-viral episode #1757 of The Joe Rogan Experience, Malone compared the US to Nazi Germany and said today's society was suffering from a 'mass formation psychosis' over the use of vaccines.

He also claimed to be part of the team that invented the mRNA technology used in the Covid-19 jab and said pharmaceutical companies administering vaccines have 'financial conflicts of interest'.

Last April he discouraged young people from getting the vaccine, saying in a conversation with comedian Dave Smith: 'If you’re like 21 years old, and you say to me, "Should I get vaccinated?" I’ll go no.'

Rogan has  also promoted taking ivermectin, despite no evidence proving it works to treat Covid

Young, 76, hit out at the streaming platform, which offers 72 albums of his work, for 'spreading fake information about vaccines.'

Spotify acquired The Joe Rogan Experience podcast in 2020, reportedly for more than $100 million.

Spotify agreed to remove his music days after he issued the ultimatum, but the streaming platform contended that it has played a role in curbing Covid misinformation.

'We have detailed content policies in place and we've removed over 20,000 podcast episodes related to COVID since the start of the pandemic,' a spokesperson told Variety

'We regret Neil's decision to remove his music from Spotify, but hope to welcome him back soon.'

Young wasn't the first one to call Spotify out on enabling Rogan's controversial content.

Earlier this month, hundreds of doctors and scientists signed an open letter to Spotify accusing Rogan of pushing 'anti-vax misinformation' on his podcast - with one branding him a 'menace to public health'.

Lofgren - who has played the guitar for Springsteen, Young, and others - became the latest musician to take his solo work off the streaming service.

He wrote in Young's newsletter that he was joining his bandmate in 'standing with hundreds of health care professionals, scientists, doctors and nurses' in criticizing Spotify over its role in 'promoting lies and misinformation' regarding Covid.

His announcement came as Spotify faces an exodus of talent with podcaster Brené Brown 'pausing' her channel and Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl also rumored to be leaving the platform.

Amazon Prime Music, which includes 2 million songs, is included with its Prime subscription.

Its Amazon Music Unlimited platform includes 75 million songs and podcasts at a cost of $7.99 per month and up.

Spotify subscriptions start at $9.99.

An SNL writer from 2008 to 2012 (during which time he won an Emmy and co-created with Bill Hader Weekend Update’s Stefon character), Mulaney first hosted the show in May 2017, in the episode that gave us the infamous “Diner Lobster” (embedded below).

Mulaney next hosted SNL in March 2019 (giving us “Bodega Bathroom,” and for which he earned an Emmy Award nomination), February 2020 (serving “Airport Sushi”) and, most recently, on Halloween 2020.

Paul Rudd was last in line to join SNL‘s 5-Timers Club, on Dec. 29, 2021, but an asterisk presumably was attached to that outing, seeing as the Omicron surge caused the show to keep the audience and almost all cast at home, resulting in largely previously aired and classic holiday sketches.

Spotify covid misinformation controversy grows as Nils Lofgren, Joni Mitchell join protest - The Washington Post

A controversy over coronavirus misinformation on Spotify is heating up, with a handful of musicians this weekend joining Neil Young in saying they want their music off the streaming platform as it continues to host provocative podcaster Joe Rogan.

Rock musician Nils Lofgren, best known as a member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band as well as Young’s Crazy Horse, on Saturday became the latest artist to join a protest kicked off by Young, saying in a statement that he, too, would “cut ties with Spotify” and urged “all musicians, artists and music lovers everywhere” to do the same. Singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell also said she plans to remove her music from Spotify in solidarity with Young “and the global scientific and medical communities.”

Separately, BrenĂ© Brown, a research professor at the University of Houston who hosts the popular podcasts “Unlocking Us” and “Dare to Lead” on Spotify, tweeted Saturday that she “will not be releasing any podcasts until further notice” but did not list a specific reason or whether the announcement was linked to Rogan. The Post could not immediately reach Brown for comment.

The latest developments are escalating pressure on Spotify to clarify how it will weigh promoting the free speech of its content creators against the impact that some can have on public health during the pandemic. The company is seeking to dominate the podcast space and faces growing scrutiny as the medium attracts more anti-vaccine activists who run afoul of misinformation policies on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

And competitors appear to be seeking an advantage amid the controversy: Apple Music on Friday called itself the “the home of Neil Young” in a tweet promoting his catalogue.

Lofgren and Mitchell in their statements said they stood in solidarity with Young, who collaborated with Crazy Horse to produce many well-known albums. Young who had demanded his music be taken off the streaming platform in response to the presence of “fake information about vaccines” in some of the content it hosts.

The letter, which was posted to his website and has since been removed, cited Joe Rogan, who hosts “The Joe Rogan Experience,” as part of Young’s issue with Spotify. “They can have Rogan or Young,” the legendary musician reportedly wrote. “Not both.”

Spotify soon began removing Young’s music from its catalogue, including his best-known hits such as “Heart of Gold,” “Harvest Moon” and “Rockin’ in the Free World.”

Mitchell, whose renowned album “Blue” just turned 50, wrote in a statement on her website on Friday that she “decided to remove all” her music from Spotify because “irresponsible people are spreading lies that are costing people their lives.”

Spotify, in a statement previously provided to The Washington Post acknowledged the balancing act. “We want all the world’s music and audio content to be available to Spotify users. With that comes great responsibility in balancing both safety for listeners and freedom for creators,” a Spotify spokesperson said.

“We have detailed content policies in place and we’ve removed over 20,000 podcast episodes related to covid-19 since the start of the pandemic," the statement continued. "We regret Neil’s decision to remove his music from Spotify, but hope to welcome him back soon.”

Rogan, whose immensely popular podcast Spotify exclusively acquired in 2020, has questioned the need for young, healthy people to get vaccinated against the coronavirus, and hosted guests who have promoted conspiracy theories about the pandemic.

Earlier this month, 270 experts called on Spotify in an open letter to “immediately establish a clear and public policy to moderate misinformation on its platform.”

The experts particularly criticized an episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” in which Rogan interviewed Robert Malone, a doctor and prominent skeptic of the coronavirus vaccines, as an example of the podcast’s “concerning history of broadcasting misinformation, particularly regarding” the pandemic.

The episode “is not the only transgression to occur on the Spotify platform, but a relevant example of the platform’s failure to mitigate the damage it is causing,” the experts wrote.

Young in a statement posted to his website on Wednesday said he “first learned” of the prevalence of misinformation around the pandemic on Spotify “by reading that 200 plus doctors had joined forces, taking on the dangerous life-threatening COVID falsehoods found in SPOTIFY programming,”

“I am happy and proud to stand in solidarity with the front line health care workers who risk their lives every day to help others,” he wrote on Friday.

Travis M. Andrews contributed reporting.

Britney Spears Accused Jamie Lynn Spears Of Lying About Her Experience With Her Former "Zoey 101" Costar, Alexa Nikolas - BuzzFeed

"You're lying, just like you lied about Alexa Nikolas."

For context, in the memoir Jamie Lynn accused Alexa of spreading mean rumors about her on the set of the Nickelodeon show. However, Alexa has long said that Jamie Lynn was the one who bullied and excluded her on the show — and in turn accused her of "lying up a storm" in her book.

One thing that both Jamie Lynn and Alexa agree on is that Britney spoke to Alexa following a conversation with Jamie Lynn — but their accounts differ hugely. Alexa described the incident as a terrifying moment where Britney was "screaming" and "berating" her, while Jamie Lynn implied that Britney simply did it to defend her after she went to her for "guidance."

The key difference here is whether or not Jamie Lynn was honest when she spoke to Britney about Alexa's behavior on set.

Fast-forward to yesterday, when Jamie Lynn posted on Instagram, saying, "I can’t believe I’m officially a NATIONAL BEST SELLING AUTHOR! I have no words except how grateful I am that I was able share my story with y’all."

In turn, Britney posted on her own Instagram, writing, "National best seller ???? DUH 🙄 …. the timing of your book was unbelievable Jamie Lynn … especially knowing the whole world had no clue what was really done to me !!!! My whole family including you is saying YOU DIDN’T KNOW …. Bullshit !!!"

Britney then referenced Alexa by name, saying, "The nerve of you to sell a book now and talk shit but your fucking lying just like you lied about Alexa Nikolas !!!!"

"I wish you would take a lie detector test so all these masses of people see you’re lying through your teeth about me !!!! I wish the almighty, Lord would could come down and show this whole world that you’re lying and making money off of me !!!! You are scum, Jamie Lynn," she concluded.

Alexa herself evidently saw the post, as she wrote on her own Instagram, "Thank you Britney Spears! You are an inspiration."

This isn't the first time that Alexa has posted on Instagram about Britney — last year, she wrote, “I support her," and, "Free Britney," on Instagram amidst the singer's plea to end her conservatorship.

It's nice to see people supporting one another.
