CMPD: Man charged for allegedly firing gun inside uptown Charlotte comedy club - WSOC Charlotte
CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has identified a man arrested for allegedly firing a gun inside an uptown Charlotte comedy club Saturday night.
Police said Omar James McCombs, 36, was charged with nine counts in connection to the incident.
No one was hurt Saturday, but the situation canceled the show at The Comedy Zone in the AvidXchange Music Factory, where comedian Craig Robinson was supposed to perform.
Employees told Channel 9 reporter Tina Terry that a man came inside the club while waving a gun around and demanded that everyone leave the building. Employees said it happened around 9:10 p.m.
About 50 customers were inside and dozens more were outside. Employees said they started running out of the door. CMPD confirmed after everyone was evacuated, McCombs allegedly fired that gun inside.
Officers were able to quickly detain McCombs and take him to CMPD headquarters.
McCombs was charged with five counts of assault by pointing a gun, one count of discharging a firearm within an enclosure to incite fear and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, among other charges. His bonds total $90,000, according to Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office arrest records.
‘A lot of chaos’
In the meantime, many people who were there Saturday were just grateful no one was hurt.
“I heard there were people running out, even some of our coworkers couldn’t get in. They were confused,” Serenity Sanders said. “A lot of chaos. I’m glad it wasn’t bad, people could still come out to the factory and enjoy their time out.”
It all happened about 30 minutes before a sold out show with Robinson. Police said that show was canceled.
On Saturday night, Robinson spoke for the first time in an Instagram Live he recorded after the scary situation.
“There’s an active shooter at the club I was at, so we had to run over here to this concert,” he said. Then later, “It was just wild, I was in the green room, they were like ‘everybody get out.’ It was wild for sure.”
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck get married in Las Vegas - Page Six
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have tied the knot!
Sources at TMZ have confirmed the two star’s marriage and Page Six has obtained a marriage license from Clark County, NV filed Saturday, July 16, indicating that Benjamin Géza Affleck and Jennifer Lynn Lopez are indeed married.
The “Marry Me” actress announced her engagement to the “Good Will Hunting” star in April in a short video via her fan newsletter, “On The JLo.”
“You’re perfect,” Lopez was heard saying in the clip as she stared adoringly at her green engagement ring.
“I always say the color green is my lucky color. Maybe you can remember a certain green dress,” she explained in a previous newsletter, referring to that famous Versace silk chiffon number she wore to the 2000 Grammys.
“I’ve realized there are many moments in my life where amazing things happened when I was wearing green,” she added.
The couple met in 2001 on the set of their movie “Gigli” while Lopez was still married to her second husband Cris Judd. Following their June 2002 separation, “Bennifer” was born, with Affleck making an appearance in Lopez’s unforgettable music video for “Jenny from the Block.”
One month after the video’s premiere, Affleck proposed to J.Lo, popping the question with a 6.1-carat pink diamond by Harry Winston.
Unfortunately, the couple eventually called off the wedding due to the media, they said in a joint statement at the time.
“Due to the excessive media attention surrounding our wedding, we have decided to postpone the date,” the couple said. “When we found ourselves seriously contemplating hiring three separate ‘decoy brides’ at three different locations, we realized that something was awry.”
They continued, “We began to feel that the spirit of what should have been the happiest day of our lives could be compromised. We felt what should have been a joyful and sacred day could be spoiled for us, our families, and our friends.”
By 2004, the pair officially called off the engagement and split. Lopez went on to marry Marc Anthony later that year, welcoming twins Emme and Max, born in 2008.
Meanwhile, Affleck tied the knot with Jennifer Garner in June 2005 and went on to welcome three kids with the actress: Violet, Seraphina, and Sam.
Both marriages ended in divorce.
The pair finally reunited in 2021 following Lopez’s split from baseball giant Alex Rodriguez and have been attached at the hip ever since.
“I feel so lucky and happy and proud to be with him,” Lopez told People in February. “It’s a beautiful love story that we got a second chance.”

Miles Teller Shares The Reason Why His Wife Keleigh Cried on the Set of Taylor Swift's Music Video - E! NEWS
"Although by saying that, I'm implying that I would want to reboot it. I think it's a perfect movie," he explained. "It's just that father-son thing. I think that's how a lot of kids bond with their dad. I was lucky—my dad and I could talk about a good amount of things—but still, for me, having a catch is just very therapeutic. It's the equivalent of me walking on the beach."
In fact, Miles is such a huge baseball fan—and an avid baseball card collector—that he partnered with eBay to celebrate the launch of the eBay Vault at its first-ever Vault Stars trading card draft alongside former second baseman Chase Utley and MLB Network's Alanna Rizzo.
"I'm really excited for the partnership. I'm very, very excited about the cards I get to pick," he said. "Collecting baseball cards is something I've done my whole life. Some of these cards are 75 years old. You're really holding a piece of history and as a lifelong baseball fan that is special to me. It's an artifact. It's a relic."
He's also glad that eBay is providing a safer way to obtain more sought-after cards.
"When I was younger, it was a little more wild, wild west with buying and collecting. So to have the eBay brand, who has always maintained 100% customer satisfaction, you really feel safe and protected," Miles said. "It's the best now because everything is coming and going through the Vault so you don't have to worry about the card getting messed up in shipment or any of that stuff. Some of these cards are extremely valuable and rare, so it takes a lot of trust."
And, if the Philadelphia Phillies are listening, Miles revealed that he's fully ready to put his acting career on hold to become their newest star hitter. He jokingly added, "If they presented it to me like, ‘Miles, you've got to take two years off from acting but you'll get to play second base for the Phillies.' I would say, ‘See you later acting.'"

Tamra Judge returning to 'Real Housewives of Orange County' - Page Six
Tamra Judge will be returning to Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Orange County” for its 17th season, multiple sources exclusively tell Page Six.
“Tamra is thrilled to come back to the show, especially after feeling the fan love from her stint on ‘Ultimate Girls Trip,'” an insider tells us. “She can’t wait to get back in the mix on ‘RHOC’ and see how she can shake up the dynamic.”
Another source close to Judge, 54, also added that the next installment of the reality show is expected to “revolve around Tamra.”
Several Bravolebrities shared their thoughts on Judge’s return on Saturday at Jill Zarin’s Luxury Luncheon in The Hamptons, benefiting the Bobby Zarin Memorial Trust.
“Obviously her presence has been missed,” “RHOC” alum Braunwyn Windham-Burke told Page Six during Zarin’s swanky soirée.
“She’s a staple on the show and they’d be lucky to have her.”
When asked about Judge’s comeback after two seasons off, her longtime pal and former co-star Vicki Gunvalson offered, “Good for her, I’m happy for her.”
Earlier in the day, Zarin shared a different take on Gunvalson’s reaction, letting it slip in a since-deleted Instagram Story that Judge would be returning much to her chagrin.
“And Tamra’s coming back and my friend Vicki’s not happy,” Zarin told her followers while on the way to her luncheon.
Just last month, Judge believed that “Real Housewives” executive producer Andy Cohen wasn’t interested in bringing her back due to false information about her podcast that she believes was “fed” to him by Heather Dubrow.
“Tamra’s doing a whole podcast about the behind-the-scenes of the ‘Housewives,’” the Bravo boss said in reference to “Two Ts In A Pod,” which Judge co-hosts with “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum Teddi Mellencamp.
“How do you go on a ‘Housewives’ show when you’re doing a behind-the-scenes about the ‘Housewives’?”
Judge claimed to have heard similar comments on a previous episode of Dubrow’s podcast, “Heather Dubrow’s World.”
“And I feel like somebody’s been in his ear telling him that that’s what we do,” Judge later told Jeff Lewis, adding that she point-blank asked her former boss if he actually listened to her podcast.
“And he said, ‘No.’ And I said, ‘Well, you can’t just read headlines and expect to believe that.’”
It appears that all has been settled, however, as Judge is gearing up for her return to the Bravo hit. The network did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

Box Office: ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Fending Off ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ and ‘Paws of Fury’ - Variety
“Thor: Love and Thunder” looks to rule the box office again in its second weekend, fending off more modest openers “Where the Crawdads Sing” and “Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank.”
While Marvel’s Thor fourquel has an easy path to remaining the weekend’s top release, the superhero film is taking a sizable tumble from its opening. “Love and Thunder” added $13.8 million in its second Friday, roughly 80% down from its opening day. That’s a hair stronger than Marvel’s most recent releases “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” (an 81% drop on its second Friday) and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (an 84% fall), but it’s on the steeper side for the studio, particularly compared to the film’s predecessor “Thor: Ragnarok,” which fell 60% in its second Friday.
Some industry projections have “Love and Thunder” netting $45 million from 4,375 locations in its second weekend, falling below initial estimates for a sophomore haul north of $55 million. The film should expand its domestic gross beyond $230 million through the weekend, already marking it as the sixth highest grossing domestic release of 2022 so far. Even considering the slight underperformance, those numbers are nothing to sneeze at.
Directed by “Ragnarok” helmer Taika Waititi, the fourth solo installment in Thor’s Marvel journey stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander and Russell Crowe.
Sony’s “Where the Crawdads Sing,” the feature adaptation of the popular murder mystery novel, is projected to pull $15 million to $16 million from 3,650 locations in its opening weekend. It’s a sizable debut for a female-skewing drama with a modest $24 million production budget. What’s more, “Crawdads” is outperforming its original industry projections, which had pegged the adaptation for a $10 million opening heading into the weekend. The film looks to open in third on domestic charts.
Produced by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, “Where the Crawdads Sing” follows Kya (Daisy Edgar-Jones), an outcast living in the marshes of North Carolina, who finds herself at the center of a murder investigation.
Critics have been largely dismissive of the film, which has netted a Rotten Tomatoes score of 38% from top critics. However, Variety‘s chief film critic Owen Gleiberman praised “Crawdads,” saying it is “at once a mystery, a romance, a back-to-nature reverie full of gnarled trees and hanging moss, and a parable of women’s power and independence in a world crushed under by masculine will.” Audiences have also been receptive, with the film scoring an “A-” grade from research firm Cinema Score, indicating solid approval among general moviegoers.
Paramount’s “Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank” isn’t making much of a splash. The animated release is debuting outside of the top five with a projected $6.2 million opening from 3,475 locations. The film faces stiff competition for family audiences from Universal’s “Minions: The Rise of Gru” and Marvel’s “Thor,” both of which remain hot releases for multiplexes.
The family-friendly film “Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank” is loosely drawn from Mel Brooks’ landmark 1974 comedy “Blazing Saddles,” trading cowboys for samurai and racial tensions for dog-vs.-cat antics. The story follows a beagle, voiced by Michael Cera, who becomes the sword-wielding protector of a town of felines. The film also includes the voices of Samuel L. Jackson, Ricky Gervais, Michelle Yeoh and Brooks.
The original release date for “Paws of Fury” was all the way back in April 2017. Needless to say, it’s been a long road for the film, which was conceived as a Sony production before moving to Open Road. Now, “Paws of Fury” is being released by Paramount. It’s easy to imagine many parties involved are relieved to put the troubled production in the rearview mirror. And with an “A-” grade from CinemaScore, it seems that they have at least left some smiles on people’s faces along the way.
Universal’s “Minions: The Rise of Gru” looks to repeat in second place. The animated spinoff looks to add $25.3 million in its third weekend, dropping only 45% from its sophomore outing. “The Rise of Gru” currently stands as the fifth highest grossing film of 2022. It should expand its domestic gross beyond $260 million through the weekend.
Paramount’s “Top Gun: Maverick” is putting up yet another impressive hold at the box office. The Tom Cruise sequel looks to fall a slim 24% in its eighth weekend, adding $11.7 million to its domestic haul. With $609 million in domestic ticket sales to its name, “Maverick” is now closing in on the all-time top 10 at the North American box office. The film could potentially surpass Disney’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” (a $620 million gross) and Marvel’s “The Avengers” (a $623 million gross) in the near future.
“Elvis” should round out the box office’s top five. The Warner Bros. release added $2.3 million on Friday, only 32% down from one week ago. The Baz Luhrmann-directed biopic surpassed a $100 million domestic gross this week — an impressive result for a drama aimed squarely at older audiences.
Focus Features’ “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris” also hit theaters this weekend with a semi-wide release. The feature adaptation of Paul Gallico’s 1958 novel looks to earn a modest $1.74 million from 980 theaters in its opening, roughly amounting to $1,776 per location. The Lesley Manville vehicle looks to land in tenth on domestic charts.

Meghan Markle furious over Vanity Fair cover that announced her relationship to Harry - Page Six
Meghan Markle’s excitement at being on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine turned to hysteria and rage after the magazine focused on her relationship with Prince Harry instead of her acting and philanthropy, according to a bombshell new book about the royal couple.
In “Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors,” British journalist Tom Bower said Meghan was “ecstatic” when the magazine agreed to do a story about her, and put her on the cover of the September 2017 issue.
But when the magazine used the headline “She’s Just Wild About Harry,” and did not focus on her work as an activist and philanthropist, Buckingham Palace balked — and Meghan was furious with her US public relations company, Sunshine Sachs, according to excerpts from the book published by The Times of London Saturday.
According to Bower, Meghan had been under strict orders from Harry’s public relations team to steer clear of sensitive topics, including Donald Trump, race and her relationship with the prince.
Meghan had convinced Harry the article would focus on the celebration of the 100th episode of “Suits,” the TV show that the actress was filming in Toronto, where the interview was conducted.
“Sunshine Sachs had demanded that the magazine satisfy Meghan’s requirement that she be presented as a philanthropist and activist, without considering one problem: Vanity Fair’s scrupulous researchers could find no evidence of her global philanthropy and activism,” writes Bower.
But when Vanity Fair contributing editor Sam Kashner, who confessed he had never heard of Meghan or “Suits,” asked Meghan about her relationship with Harry, she replied, “We’re a couple. We’re in love.”
‘I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time.” Markle said in the article.
The interview was “like a thunderclap,” writes Bower. “the interview triggered sensational reactions: Meghan had used her relationship with Harry to promote herself. The Hollywoodisation of the royal family had sealed Meghan’s fate as Harry’s fiancée.”

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
Britney Spears shared a clip of a new version of her debut single "Baby One More Time" Friday that she said she shot on her phone Thursday while doing her laundry.
The "Gimme More" singer belted out an a cappella version of the 1998 hit, saying it was the first time she had shared her voice in an "extremely long time … maybe too long."
Spears said she had asked for an alternate version of "Baby One More Time" for 14 years after she first donned pigtails and a school girl outfit as a teenager in the original music video, but producers refused to do it and she had little control over her career due to her conservatorship that started in 2008.
She said she was sharing her frustration "because I am aware of my love and passion to sing … and my own family made a fool of me."
She added she was "sure you advanced musicians think it’s horrible or bad … well WHEN I’M BAD, I’M BETTER."

The rendition was well received by her fans on Instagram. "THIS IS A POP EMERGENCY WE WAITED THIS FOR SO LONG," musician Max Tejera wrote with another commenter joking, "OMG THIS IS NOT A DRILL!"

Ryan Gosling's Ken Will Have 'No Money, No Job, No Car, No House' In Barbie - IGN - IGN
The Kenaissance is upon us. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight promoting his new film The Gray Man, Ryan Gosling spent some time dropping teasers for his role as Ken in the upcoming Barbie film.
Citing Gosling’s six pack abs in Barbie, ET's Lauren Zima asked which role he was more buff for. Gosling mused, “That Ken life is even harder than The Gray Man life, I think. He’s got no money, no job, no car, he’s got no house. He’s going through some stuff.”
In The Gray Man, Gosling is called a “Ken doll” by Chris Evans’ character as an insult but Gosling says that “is not an insult at all! I’m proud of that."
Major plot details have yet to be revealed about the film, but numerous set photos have leaked showcasing Gosling and Margot Robbie as Barbie in retro, throwback outfits inspired by Barbies from years past.
When asked about the set photos, Gosling said, “That’s nothing. I can’t wait for people to see the film. That's all I can say, otherwise Mattel will come in and box me up."
The film found its director in Lady Bird’s Greta Gerwig last summer. Earlier this year, Will Ferrell joined the film and will reportedly play the CEO of a toy company.
Since the film’s announcement, we’ve gotten one official look as Robbie as Barbie who took the role after Amy Schumer dropped out. Fans of Barbie might be disappointed to know that the iconic ‘Barbie Girl’ song by Danish pop group Aqua won’t be in the film. Despite that, if the official photos of Robbie as Barbie and Gosling as Ken are any indicator, the film is definitely embracing the campier side of things.

Where The Crawdads Sing director Olivia Newman on mysteries and myth-making - The A.V. Club
Where The Crawdads Sing, an adaptation of Delia Owens’ bestseller, is the kind of must-see movie that seemed to arrive every few months during the mid-1990s, and now director Olivia Newman is hoping her film can help bring that type of project back into vogue.
Newman’s film, which beautifully merges the urgency of a soapy page turner and the unhurried familiarity of myth, stars Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kya, a self-taught outsider growing up in 1960s North Carolina. Kya spends her life surrounded by suspicious townspeople, and she gets accused of murder when a young man dies under mysterious circumstances. Newman, best known for her 2018 debut First Match, delivers an affecting character study, a complicated love triangle, and a juicy murder mystery that simultaneously tugs at viewers’ heartstrings and keeps them on the edge of their seats.
The director recently spoke to The A.V. Club about Where The Crawdads Sing, starting with the challenge of bringing this successful novel to life, the disparate threads of the book’s romance and mystery, the central character’s search for self-actualization, and the film’s sad parallels with topics in the zeitgeist today.
The A.V. Club: Did the fact that this was a bestseller make it a no-brainer to direct? Or was there simply something about the book that resonated with you?
Olivia Newman: First and foremost, it was the book that drew me to the project. I could not put the book down when I read it. I was really drawn to the character of Kya, who embodied this incredible strength and resilience, but is also a character I’d never seen before. Her ability to survive under incredibly harsh circumstances and the way that she finds her own life and discovers her own sense of self-worth despite suffering from the worst rejection imaginable, that story really resonated with me. And then the landscape of the marshlands of North Carolina, and the forest and the swamps and those kind of magical landscapes really drew me visually to the project.
AVC: What was the biggest challenge in trying to condense a rich character study that also has the imprint of a Gothic murder mystery?
ON: I like to say that blending all of these genres was the delicious challenge of this movie. It is a murder mystery. It is a love story. It is a survivalist tale. For me as a director, being able to sink my teeth into all of those genres was a huge challenge, but also one that I welcomed with great excitement. And it starts with figuring out how to adapt such an amazing book into a movie that’s also its own standalone medium that really pays homage and captures the spirit of the book but can weave the story together in a way that keeps audiences really engaged. So at the script stage, we decided to root us as much as possible with Kya, so leaving the courtroom throughout the film, anytime we were in the present in the murder mystery, we were with Kya. And any time we were in the past, we were also following Kya’s survival—and romances. And so that was a way to weave those three genres, but also stay really connected to our main character and see the story unfold as much as possible through her eyes. I think having access to an experience like Kya’s was, to me, the most exciting thing to offer the viewer.
AVC: Listening to you describe it reminds me of how excited I felt by the elasticity of the story, which is this murder mystery that draws people in to these many different ideas—her survival, her romance, her education. How much of that balance was fully figured out in the script?
ON: Well, as a reader of the book, the ending was everything, the ending is the story. That captures the essence of what [author Delia Owens] is trying to say. So there was no version of this movie without that ending, because then it’s not telling Delia’s story. And so that was never a question—we were always going to be absolutely faithful and honor the book, and the message of the ending. There was a lot of conversation throughout the writing process about the best way to tie it all up, and weave all those different storylines. There’s romances that need to be tied up. There’s a murder mystery that needs to be tied up. There’s also the trauma of Kya’s childhood, of her mother leaving and her understanding why, and how that reflects back on her own sense of self and self-worth. To me, every time I think about that scene of her mother leaving makes me want to cry, because it’s the worst thing imaginable. And so that was also a really important thread for me to try to give Kya an understanding and some ability to reflect back and understand the cycle of domestic violence. So there was a lot of conversation throughout the writing process about the best way to weave all of these things. And I think we tried a lot of different things before we arrived something that was succinct enough to fit a two-hour movie, but still gave enough time to each of those different threads in order for them all to kind of have their own space and their own importance.
AVC: One of the other things the film does so well is draw these characterizations without overstating in the dialog, especially for her two “suitors.” How much did you rely upon Harris or Taylor or Daisy to draw out the tension of the attraction and the possible danger?
ON: I think the priority with all of the characters was that we really believe them as fully complicated human beings, for all of their strengths and all of their flaws. I don’t really believe in good guys versus bad guys. In real life, it’s always a question of “Who are you?” rather than “What happened to you? How did you become the way you are?” And so for all of the characters, we had lengthy conversations with each of the actors about their character’s histories, their family relationships, their sense of who they are, and what they were going through at each moment of the story. They all make mistakes. None of them are perfect. They all have their own soul searching to do. But what I loved about all of the actors is just how committed they were to really believing in their characters and finding some way to connect to and relate to them. And the actors are all so different from the characters they portray.
I mean, Harris is one of the loveliest, most charming, wonderful, sweet humans you’ll ever meet. And so his portrayal of a guy who is really kind of a bit lost and complicated, I think is a testament to his acting abilities. And so it goes with their performance, of course, and their embodiment of these characters. And then in writing the script, that was also something Lucy and I talked about a lot. We wanted to make sure that they felt really three dimensional through the writing and that you believed in both of the relationships. You could understand why Kya was so taken by Chase. Delia does an amazing job in the book in describing the real physical attraction that she feels towards him and that need for human connection after being alone for so many years, and why somebody with the charm of Chase would be such welcome company. He gives her attention and he gives her company. And he can be very caring. And then the connection with Tate really grows out of their shared love of the marsh and of science and nature. That connection really blooms from a friendship and an intellectual connection. So it was the writing, and it was the performance.
AVC: What did Daisy bring to the character that made her the right choice for the role?
ON: When we were casting, I had seen Daisy in Normal People and it was a show that I binged during the start of the pandemic when I was desperately in need of romance. I wanted a romantic escape, and Normal People was the medicine for Covid melancholy. That was my discovery of Daisy, and I just thought, “Who is this amazing actress who’s so layered and so deep?” And the role she plays in Normal People is quite different from Kya, so I had no idea what to expect when she auditioned, and I was just astonished at her very first read. She read the book in two days. She had the script for like 48 hours before she read for us, and I just was astonished by how quickly she was able to embody both Kya’s raw vulnerability, but also that real inner strength. And in working with Daisy, I now know she’s an actress who can do anything. The sky is the limit for her. And she’s so committed to the craft and so committed to the work. She came down to New Orleans six weeks before we started shooting. She learned how to drive a boat. She learned how to fish. She did movement work to really kind of get into Kya’s body and really get into what it’s like to walk around the marsh barefoot and be so at one with nature. She’s unbelievable with accents. So she learned the dialects with no problem. So now I know, of course, she’s an actress who has just an incredible range. But it was an amazing surprise when she auditioned, to discover that in her very first read.
AVC: This film feels very timeless, but it also taps into some contemporary ideas. How much did current themes factor in?
ON: I felt like it was a real conversation about what it is to be marginalized and outcast that sadly continues to be incredibly urgent and part of the current zeitgeist. I wish it wasn’t, to be honest. The film takes place during the height of segregation in the South. And it’s really sad to me that so many of these themes are still relevant today. And at the same time, I really felt like the story of “the Marsh Girl” had this very timeless quality. I read folklore from all over the world to my young children, and we read all of these different stories that have different variations depending on the culture that they’re from. And the story of the Marsh Girl sort of felt that way to me, that you could imagine there was a similar story about the Marsh Girl who was rejected and ostracized by society and had to overcome all these great challenges. And you can imagine that kind of story being told in many different cultures, many different time periods, many different societies. And so I did want to find a way to give it that sort of timeless feeling. And so that was part of the conversation in terms of the look of the film. It was a huge part of the conversation with my composer, Mychael Danna. I had loved the work he did on The Ice Storm. That is another example of a movie that is set during a very specific time period in American history, and yet the score sort of makes it feel like it is something much more universal, about the disintegration of the family. And so that was a big part of the conversation when we were talking about how we wanted the score to give it that feeling of folklore.
AVC: There were a lot of bestseller adaptations in the ’90s, and it feels like we’ve gotten away from that. How emblematic is this of the work you want to do?
ON: I hope this is emblematic of a return to watching great dramas in movie theaters. I’m so grateful that this film was made always with the intention to be shown on the big screen, because it feels like a story and a palette and a landscape that needs to be experienced in that way. So I’m very grateful that Sony always intended to release it theatrically. It’s been a complicated time for moviegoing, for many reasons. But my hope is that people are craving this kind of story on the big screen again as much as I have been. I’m working on another book adaptation now, so maybe that says something about me. I don’t know. I’m working on a limited series for Apple that’s another adaptation of a bestselling novel, called The Last Thing He Told Me. I don’t know what that says about me [Laughs], but I’m drawn to, especially, stories that really highlight exceptional women and complicated roles. And I’ve just gotten really lucky that I’ve managed to get my hands on these incredible books that are being adapted.

Clayton Echard's girlfriend, Susie Evans, 'annoyed' by 'Bachelorette' digs - Page Six
Clayton Echard’s girlfriend, Susie Evans, admitted she was “annoyed” that multiple people took digs at the former “Bachelor” during the “Bachelorette” Season 19 premiere Monday.
“Clayton handled it better overall than I did. I was annoyed,” Evans, 28, said on Tuesday’s episode of the “Off the Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe” podcast.
“He can laugh at himself, and I can laugh at Clayton … and I can laugh at myself. But also, my fear is, does this open the floodgates back up of all the hate and stuff? … But Clayton, definitely was going with the flow. … He was able to laugh.”
During the first episode of the new season — which stars two female leads, Gabby Windey and Rachel Recchia — quite a few of the men roasted Echard, 29, for telling both Windey, 31, and Recchia, 26, that he loved them and sleeping with both women during the fantasy suites of “The Bachelor” Season 26 last year.
One contestant bluntly called Echard a “piece of s–t,” a few referenced the double-dumping during their entrances at the “Bachelor” mansion and one man even hired a children’s choir to sing “Clayton Sucks.”
“Do I think that’s what should have been shown? I mean, no. I do think it was cyberbullying or an attack or it’s going to lead to cyberbullying,” Echard said on the podcast. “And so for that, I’m not the biggest fan of how that was shown, but it was and … it’s just the nature of the beast.”
Echard added that he is ready to “just ignore it” and “let it pass” because while he had a “muck” of a season, he is now happily with Evans because “of this entire environment.”
As for the children’s choir?
“I’m gonna go chase down those parents,” the former football player joked.
As the episode aired, Echard received support from many other former Bachelor Nation figures such as Katie Thurston and “Grocery Store” Joe Amabile.
Echard also took to social media during the premiere, tweeting, “It’s not personal, it’s business.”
“The Bachelorette” Season 19 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Kim Kardashian Cuddles Shirtless Pete Davidson in Their Cutest PDA Pics Yet - E! NEWS
Bible, Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson's latest pics might be their cutest yet.
Kim shared a sweet selfie with the Saturday Night Live alum in a July 11 Instagram post, along with other adorable PDA pics.
Captioned with a tongue-out, smiley face emoji, the reality star's post also features pics of the two chilling by the pool, a shirtless (and mustached) Pete leaning in for a kiss and Kim resting her feet on her man's tattooed chest.
Not to mention, Pete looks smitten in the pic of him admiring Kim in her all-black bikini.
Khloe Kardashian wasted no time poking fun at the couple's pics in the comments, calling out her older sister by writing, "Do you guys have a foot fetish too?"
The new photos come the same day as the season two trailer for Hulu's The Kardashians. "I have a new boyfriend," Kim says in the trailer. "I'm just having a really good time." The two became official in November 2021, a few months after she filed for divorce from ex-husband Kanye West in February 2021.
