Harry Styles breaks silence on Candace Owens' Vogue comments - Page Six

It’s a sign of the times.

Harry Styles threw some subtle shade at Candace Owens on Wednesday in response to the political pundit’s criticism of his Vogue cover, in which he donned a Gucci ball gown.

“Bring back manly men,” he captioned a picture of himself wearing a powder blue suit and ruffled shirt while eating a banana.

In November, Owens, 31, tweeted the words Styles, 26, used in his caption.

The conservative wrote, “There is no society that can survive without strong men. The East knows this. In the west, the steady feminization of our men at the same time that Marxism is being taught to our children is not a coincidence. It is an outright attack. Bring back manly men.”

Styles also addressed Owens’ remarks in a new interview with Variety on Wednesday, stating, “To not wear [something] because it’s females’ clothing, you shut out a whole world of great clothes. And I think what’s exciting about right now is you can wear what you like. It doesn’t have to be X or Y. Those lines are becoming more and more blurred.”

The “Watermelon Sugar” singer was Vogue’s first solo male cover star.

He told the publication that he has an admiration for women’s clothing and is inspired by gender-bending performers like David Bowie, Prince, Elvis, Freddie Mercury and Elton John, someone whose music he also admires.

“Now I’ll put on something that feels really flamboyant, and I don’t feel crazy wearing it,” Styles said. “I think if you get something that you feel amazing in, it’s like a superhero outfit. Clothes are there to have fun with and experiment with and play with.”

He added, “What’s really exciting is that all of these lines are just kind of crumbling away. When you take away ‘There’s clothes for men and there’s clothes for women,’ once you remove any barriers, obviously you open up the arena in which you can play.”
