A person was bitten by an animal and seriously injured at Carole Baskin's Big Cat Rescue on Thursday morning, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue spokesperson Eric Seidel told BuzzFeed News.
Baskin, a controversial animal rights activist, rose to prominence in March after appearing in the Netflix docuseries Tiger King, and later competed on Dancing With The Stars.
The fire department responded to a call around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday from Baskin's big cat sanctuary in Tampa, Florida, that said someone had been bitten by an animal.
Fire officials could not provide details on who was bitten or by what animal due to medical privacy laws. The sanctuary is best known for its tigers but also houses lions, leopards, cougars, bobcats, and servals.
"We treated at the scene and transported the patient to a local hospital with what we would classify as a serious injury," Seidel said.
Baskin did not immediately respond to a request for comment from BuzzFeed News.
