Three mouthwatering Thai culinary dishes have landed onto the top 10 of online food guide TasteAtlas’ prestigious annual Best Dishes in the World.
Local favorite phat kaphrao, with the fiery dish’s mix of stir-fry minced pork or chicken with holy basil, ranked at number 3, just below Brazil’s picanha beef cut at number 1 and the roti canai flatbread attributed to Malaysia at number 2.
The guide lists three Bangkok restaurants – Raan Jay Fai, Neung 33, Ung Jia Huad – as the most iconic to find your authentic spicy kaphrao fix, a subjective topic that will surely get people talking.
Coming in at number 6 is the comforting and creamy khao soi noodle dish. The panang curry, an entry that previously spurred Thais to post photos of its authentic rendition after TasteAtlas misrepresented the dish and threatened to undo the global order, sits at number 10.
Other dishes within the top 10 include Italy’s pizza napolitana in fourth, China’s Guotie and Tangbao dumplings in fifth and eighth respectively, India’s butter garlic naan bread in seventh, and Russia’s shashlik in ninth.

These top 10 placements are more than just accolades; they’re a global recognition of Thailand’s vibrant and diverse culinary scene. From the fiery street food stalls of Bangkok to the Michelin-starred restaurants of Chiang Mai, Thailand’s food is a testament to the country’s rich cultural heritage and creativity.
Moreover, Thailand sits at number 17 in the guide’s Best Cuisines in the World list published yesterday. That list features Indonesia at number 6, the highest placement for a Southeast Asian country, squaring off against the top three – Italian, Japanese and Greek.
